Click there to Quit Smoking
These are the actions we have come up with.

Action 1

We are going run a contest for parents that smoke. We want them to not smoke for a certain period of time. We would like to make parents think about how they can help themselves to stop smoking and see how it has effected them and how there life is different afterwards. The reason for this is we would like to make people think about how it has made them feel and the way their health has change.

Steps:
  1. To find parents who smoke.
  2. To inform the HKA community about our contest.
  3. See how many people sign up for this activity.
  4. Tally all the people that want to join.
  5. Start the contest.
  6. After three weeks see how many people were successful.
  7. See how many prizes we have to present.
  8. Present those people who were successful with prizes.

Action 2:

As a group we are going to raise awareness about lung cancer. We are going to buy white pearl ribbons and make a special pin that will signify lung cancer awareness. We will then sell them to the students at HKA and staff so we can raise awareness about lung cancer. We are also going to hand out pieces of paper that have little facts about lung cancer. For example, “how many people die of lung cancer a year”.

Steps:

  1. We are going to get permission from the principal regarding if we can sell the ribbons at school.
  2. Inform the school about what we are doing to raise awareness and money for lung Cancer.
  3. Purchase the ribbons and pins at a stationary store (Brenda’s in Stanley)
  4. Make fliers to remind people about the upcoming event.
  5. Collect facts about lung Cancer that we will print and attach to each ribbon.
  6. Have ribbon sale for a week at some point of the day.

Action 3:

With all the money we have made we are going to do experiments to show how bad smoking is for you. We would like to present these experiments to the middle/high school to help prevent them from starting to smoke and to encourage them to quit if they already smoke. We really think that if you start smoking at a young age you are bound to die at a young age. We really want to stop people from endangering themselves and others. If we all do this maybe a lot of people will stop smoking. Interview a science teacher that we could show middle hign school.

Steps
1. Contact teachers
  1. Purchase and gather supplies we need for experiments
  2. after getting his approval we will arrange a time with teachers when we could show the students these experiments.
  3. Create a survey that we will pass out afterwards asking questions that will allow us to see how successful our presentation was.
  4. After the presentation, we look at the results and see how the presentation went for people.
Those are some ideas of action we are for

Final Action Choice

We are going to do a experiment in our school to find experiments to show how smoking smells by putting a bunch of old cigarettes in a bag and how you will smell to prevent middle/high schoolers. We will need to buy of get some of the tools we need for our experiment. Then we will set up the experiment,. Before the middle/high schoolers go in there room we put the bag in there, so they smell it. We take a video of there reactions. In that room, we ask them questions of what they think of it. That might encourage the middle/high schoolers to persuade them from starting, because they are at the most risk of starting to smoke in the first place. There will be some more steps in between the action, however, it is not as easy as it sounds.
